At Cardiff Foodbank, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

We're currently recruiting for a range of volunteer roles. Availability varies depending on our current needs, but we'd love to hear from people who want to make a difference in their local community.

No previous foodbank experience is needed. We'll provide the training, support and guidance you need to get started.

What could you get involved with?

Below are the current roles that we are recruiting.

Food Bank Centre Volunteers

Help create a welcoming environment for people using our foodbank. You could greet visitors, prepare food parcels and provide practical support during foodbank sessions.

We are currently recruiting for three Cardiff locations: Cathays, Ely and Llanedeyrn.

Food Bank Centre Volunteers  - Cathays

There are opportunities to volunteer on Tuesdays or Saturdays.

Food Bank Centre Volunteers  - Ely

There are opportunities to volunteer on Thursdays.

Food Bank Centre Volunteers  - Llanedeyrn

There are opportunities to volunteer on Wendesdays.

Signposting Volunteers

Listen to people, help them identify other support that may be available and assist with things such as completing forms or accessing local services. No previous experience is needed - full training and support will be provided.

Van Driver Volunteers

Help collect food donations from local supermarkets and community locations and transport stock safely between our warehouse and distribution centres. A suitable driving licence and any relevant requirements for the role will apply. You need to be 30+ to apply for this role.

Community Champion Volunteers

Help us raise awareness and support in the local community. You could assist with community events, speak about the foodbank, help with donation collections or support local fundraising and sponsorship.

Campaigning Volunteers

Help raise awareness of the issues that lead to food insecurity and poverty. You could support campaigns, engage with the public and help us share information about the changes needed in our communities.

There are lots of different ways to get involved, and we'll work with you to find something that suits your skills, interests and availability.

What we're looking for

You don't need previous volunteering or foodbank experience.

We're looking for people who:

  • Are reliable and enjoy working as part of a team
  • Treat everyone with kindness, dignity and respect
  • Are willing to learn
  • Can follow instructions and our procedures
  • Are comfortable asking questions when they're unsure
  • Share our commitment to supporting people in our community

Different roles may have additional requirements, which we'll explain when you apply.

What you can expect from us

When you volunteer with us, you'll be welcomed and supported by the team.

We'll provide:

  • An introduction to the foodbank and how we work
  • Training and guidance for your role
  • Support from experienced volunteers and staff
  • A named point of contact
  • Opportunities to learn and try different things
  • A friendly and inclusive volunteering environment
