Our September impact stats are out

September 2026 impact stats

September shows more donations coming into our warehouse but also more stock out to our eight food bank centres as volunteers prepare for the winter demand

During September 2026, Cardiff Foodbank distributed 1,376 food parcels, supporting 946 adults and 430 children across Cardiff. A slight decrease on the previous month.

Cardiff schools returning at the beginning of September may have helped to ease the pressures on families as free-school meals and breakfast clubs return to offer valuable support.

Latest figures show a total of 16,801.6 kg of food left the warehouse in this month.

In September, 8,838 kg of food was donated, alongside 553.5 kg of purchased stock.

Donations were buoyed by a food drive at Tesco Extra Western Avenue and nearly half a tonne of food donated by sixth form pupils of Ysgol Glantaf . Diolch yn fawr pawb!

Our van has begun collecting Harvest donations from 35 primary schools across Cardiff – and collections are still ongoing. We’re always impressed by the kindness and generosity of children, parents and teachers, and the way they understand that their actions can make a real difference to people in their local communities.

Looking to October, Jodie Jay, Operations Manager, Cardiff Foodbank, said, “We know that colder months bring harsh challenges to people who are already struggling to pay for essentials.

“The 3.6% increase in energy prices is already in place and as the weather begins to get colder, pressure on squeezed household budgets may increase further. For many people already struggling to make ends meet, increased heating costs can mean even less money available for food and other essentials. If you have an existing debt or are locked in to a prepayment metre the opportunity to switch to a cheaper supplier just isn’t there.

“This month’s increase in food donations is very welcome as we stock up for winter. Harvest collections continue to play an important role in helping us build up our stocks ahead of the increased demand we typically see during the winter months. Food drives at supermarkets also provide an essential boost, helping us bring in the food we need to keep our food bank centres stocked.

“We’re scheduling our winter food drives right now and we’d also love to hear from more businesses and organisations who could use their volunteering time to support us with our food drives. It’s a practical way for teams to make a real difference to people in their local community.”

“If you’d like to get a team together to help with our food drives, please get in touch at  volunteer@cardiff.foodbank.org.”
